Can you tell us about your artistic journey and how you found your passion for tattooing?
I always loved drawing. From an early age I knew I was going to do painting.
After getting my first tattoo, I became very interested in tattoos, and the process of turning my drawings into tattoos became very attractive to me.
When I first started, this style of tattoo was not common, and it was difficult to find a female tattooist in Korea, and that also served as an opportunity.
How would you describe your artistic style, and what elements or themes do you often incorporate into your designs?
I just want to say that it is a hand drawing style. I always try to include linear elements or various colors and textures in my designs.
What inspired you specifically to creating hand-drawn, cute, and whimsical designs in your tattoos?
All my daily life is my inspiration. A cute flower I saw on the street, my cat, a nice sunset and a bright moon. The new environments and experiences I encounter while travelling all fuel my inspiration.
I can see that you also have a brand and an online store where you offer temporary tattoos, postcards or even phone cases. Do you have other products in mind for the future?
I don’t have any plans yet, but every year I show a tattoo sticker with a different design, a T-shirt? bag? I want to prepare too!
Everything looks so hand-drawn and delicate, what is your process and technique to reach this effortless result?
I draw first as my hand moves on the paper. I sometimes use the drawings I draw as is, but I also add digital drawings later on the iPad.
Would you like to share any memorable stories or experiences from clients who have received your tattoos?
I drew many of my guests’ lovely pets. I couldn’t forget the sight of a customer shedding tears after receiving my picture, who had just sent his dog away. If my painting can be a small consolation, I am very satisfied with it.
How do you ensure that these adorable and sweet tattoos maintain their charm and appeal over time as they age with the client?
I also love the natural aging of tattoos. I like that natural and calm atmosphere. If the picture drawn on paper is transferred to the skin with the feeling intact, it will remain beautiful naturally over time. I want my customers to know the charm of these natural and beautiful tattoos.
What advice do you have for aspiring tattoo artists who are interested in specializing in cute, hand-drawn, and whimsical designs?
Draw a lot of things by hand on paper. Digital drawing using the iPad is good, but it is recommended to draw using various materials on paper. If you try various things, you will find the material and style that suits you, then you will find your own style.
What would you say is your biggest challenge at the moment?
I want to challenge myself in various fields, not just tattoos.
